SERDA participated in a meeting with financial institutions organised by FUA Sarajevo and UNDP

On 8 September 2026, the City of Sarajevo and UNDP, in cooperation with members of the Operational Team of the Sarajevo Functional Urban Area, organised a meeting with representatives of banks and other financial institutions, dedicated to financing opportunities for projects that contribute to achieving the objectives of the European Net Zero Mission.

The Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency SERDA also attended the meeting as a long-standing stakeholder in the preparation and implementation of development projects in Sarajevo and the wider region.

The meeting focused on the Action Plan and Investment Plan developed within Sarajevo’s Climate City Contract, as the basis for the next, more demanding phase – moving from planning to the concrete implementation of measures and projects and mobilising the necessary financial resources.

Representatives of the financial sector had the opportunity to learn about priority projects and investment needs, as well as to present available financial products, instruments and models for supporting green transition projects. The discussion covered opportunities for combining public, international and private sources of financing, as well as challenges that may affect the preparation and implementation of such investments.

During the meeting, SERDA presented its experience and capacities in the preparation, development and implementation of development and international projects, as well as opportunities for the Agency’s involvement in the implementation of activities and projects to be developed within Sarajevo’s Net Zero Mission.

Of particular importance in this process is the fact that the transition towards climate neutrality is taking place at the level of the Sarajevo Functional Urban Area, which encompasses Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo and the City of East Sarajevo. This territorial framework provides an important basis for connecting different institutions, levels of government, the business sector, the financial sector and other relevant stakeholders.

In this context, SERDA, as an Agency founded by Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo, the City of East Sarajevo and 32 municipalities, can play an important role as a development and project partner, particularly given its long-standing experience in the preparation and implementation of projects financed from domestic and international sources, connecting the public and private sectors, developing project partnerships and mobilising different sources of financing.

The EU Mission Label recently awarded to Sarajevo represents an important step forward, but at the same time marks the beginning of a new phase – a phase in which available plans, project ideas and investment priorities need to be transformed into concrete projects, sustainable financing models and visible results on the ground.

SERDA remains committed to actively participating in this process and placing its development, project and partnership capacities at the service of implementing concrete measures and projects that will lead Sarajevo and its Functional Urban Area towards climate neutrality.
