The Minister of Finance of Sarajevo Canton, Afan Kalamujić, visited the Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency (SERDA), where he met with Director Sanela Dževlan to discuss the Agency’s results, the implementation of international projects, and the continuation of financial support from Sarajevo Canton.
With the support of the Ministry of Finance of Sarajevo Canton, SERDA projects have attracted BAM 2.53 million to Sarajevo Canton from European and other international sources, while the total value of international projects in which the Agency participates together with its partners exceeds EUR 50 million.
The Ministry’s financial support is particularly important for securing the required own contribution to European projects, which ranges from 15% to 40%, thereby enabling access to international funds and the implementation of development activities of importance to Sarajevo Canton.
Among the projects presented were FUNDA, SReST, ATTRACT ADRIA and ABBA, with a total value of BAM 15.35 million and approximately BAM 1.41 million in SERDA project budgets. Particular emphasis was placed on the GREEN-TEX project, in which SERDA leads a consortium of partners from nine countries, as the first organisation from the IPA countries to assume the role of Lead Partner of a project under an Interreg programme.
Significant results have also been achieved through the Challenge to Change programme, implemented with the support of Sweden, through which 238 beneficiaries received grants with a total value of EUR 5.1 million, resulting in the creation of approximately 1,500 new jobs and the preservation of more than 6,000 existing jobs.
During the visit, an agreement on the co-financing of SERDA’s activities was also signed, confirming the continued support of the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Sarajevo Canton for development projects and the use of European funds.
“With the support of the Ministry of Finance of Sarajevo Canton, SERDA participates in international projects with a total value exceeding EUR 50 million, while these activities have attracted BAM 2.53 million to Sarajevo Canton from external sources. This demonstrates how important it is to secure domestic co-financing in order to access funding from European and international funds. Our goal is to continue strengthening this model of cooperation and to ensure that as much international funding as possible is directed towards the development of our economy, new investments and job creation,” Minister Kalamujić said.
Director Dževlan thanked the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Sarajevo Canton for their continued support.
“Over more than two decades, SERDA has built a strong network of domestic and international partners and gained significant experience in the preparation and implementation of European and international projects. The continued support of Sarajevo Canton enables us to further develop new project initiatives and create opportunities to mobilise additional funding for the development of the Canton and the Sarajevo Macroregion,” Director Dževlan said.
